Deena Bishop, Director of Accounting at Lexington School District One, has earned the Outstanding South Carolina School Business Official Award. This award is presented annually by the South Carolina Association of School Business Officials. Award nominees must be an active member of the School Business Officials state organization, have at least three years’ experience in education finance, and demonstrate exemplary service to their school district, the profession, their colleagues and their communities.
As a 20-year member of SCASBO, Ms. Bishop previously served on the SCASBO board for a period of seven years, advancing through each level of director and fulfilling a term in each of the four officer positions. With Ms. Bishop’s vision, SCASBO hired its first executive director and began offering a School Business Official and School Specialist certification program. Having been involved with the creation of the program, she illustrated her support of the program with a successful completion of the program in 2015. She also willing takes the responsibility of creating the CPE forms for each of the SCASBO’s conferences and has served on numerous conference committees.
As a vital member of the Lexington One finance staff, she played a crucial role in transitioning and implementing a new financial software program. She has also played a significant role in the district’s annual audit for over 20 years resulting in the district receiving over 20 GFOA Certificates of Achievement for Excellence in Financial Reporting and 20 ASBO certificates of Excellence in Financial Reporting.
Ms. Bishop is an active member of Mt. Horeb Lutheran Church and devotes endless hours supporting theater and arts in her community. Her costume designs are found in many of the theater productions.
