Recertification and Continuing Education Requirements

Below are the recertification requirements for each level of the certification program. Beginning in January following the November of receiving certification, individuals must complete the requirements listed below, list and submit required CPE hours on the Annual Continuing Education Form for hours earned during the calendar year, provide the executive director with a copy of the form, and pay the recertification fee. Certified School Business Officer

• No Continuing Professional Education (CPE) is required for the first year of certification. (1 credit hour = 50 minutes)
• A total of 20 hours of CPE of is required annually to maintain certification. At least 4 hours must be in the accounting/budgeting and finance categories.
• Self-study may only account for 8 hours of CPE per year.
• 10 hours of CPE may be carried over from one year to the next. (Self-study hours may not carry over to the next year.)
• Only 4 of the required annual CPE hours can be related to personal development subjects (including, but not limited to Leadership, Communication Skills, Career planning, Team Building, etc.)

Certified School Business Specialist

• No Continuing Professional Education (CPE) is required for the first year of certification. (1 credit hour = 50 minutes)
• A total of 12 hours of CPE of is required annually to maintain certification. At least 2 hours must be in the accounting/budgeting and finance categories.
• Self-study may only account for 4 hours of CPE per year.
• 6 hours of CPE may be carried over from one year to the next. (Self-study hours may not carry over to the next year.)
• Only 2 of the required annual CPE hours can be related to personal development subjects (including, but not limited to Leadership, Communication Skills, Career planning, Team Building, etc.).
