SCASBO Conference OBO Award March 2016

Leanne Lordo, Assistant Superintendent for Finance & Operations, has earned the Outstanding South Carolina School Business Official Award.  This award is presented annually by the South Carolina Association of School Business Officials.  Award nominees must be an active member of the School Business Officials state organization, have at least three years’ experience in education finance, and demonstrate exemplary service to their school district, the profession, their colleagues and their communities.

Ms. Lordo possesses seventeen years’ experience in education finance.  She has been at Fort Mill School District (York #4) for eight years and was previously employed at Rock Hill School District (York #3) as Executive Director of Financial Services for nine years.  Other work experience includes the private sector for the accounting firms of Burkett, Burkett and Burkett; Elliott Davis; and KPMG Peat Marwick.  Her experience includes both small and large sized organizations.

According to the multiple nominations submitted, many of her strengths and accomplishments have come from collaboration and leading people.  She is regarded as extremely nice, quiet, unassuming and very professional towards everyone.  As a result of her leadership capabilities, the Fort Mill School District Finance Department was the recipient of the Association of School Business Officials (ASBO) and the Governmental Finance Officers Association’s (GHOA) award of excellence in financial reporting for eight consecutive years.  She also has served on several statewide finance committees and is highly regarded by her colleagues in the financial community.  She implicitly understands the importance of building strong relationships with various entities including SCASBO, funding companies, Legislators and government officials.

She is described by Dr. James Epps, Superintendent of Fort Mill School District, as a strong leader in the school district as well as the community.  Her list of civic involvement is impressive and she is continuously involved in special events throughout the school district.
